  GoogleGroups subscribe-by-email now functional
GoogleGroups subscribe-by-email is now functional, tested last night. I haven't tested any other email commands, such as -unsubscribe, -digest, -nomail, etc.

Ironically, this doesn't work yet for GMail accounts due to the upper/lower case issue documented by Texas Critter. A GMail account will receive the confirmation but replying to it from your GMail account will not work yet, and there is no clickable confirmation link in the confirmation email. But this is a big step towards making GoogleGroups usable.

  HRiders.com 100 Gigabyte Accounts
http://www.tomshardware.com/hardnews/20040927_194824.html

Google claims in its promotion of Gmail that users never will have to delete emails again, due to the pure dimension of its service. Hriders.com, based in Irvine, California, believes that one Gigabyte simply is not enough and offers what Google presented as a bug to some users in the week after Gmail's launch: A whopping 100 GByte.

"We wanted to do something 'hellacious' and came up with the idea to offer 100 GByte and allow users to send attachments in sizes up to 500 MByte."

Mexican turns Gmail into blogging tool

FACE it: You’re not really going to use up the free one gigabyte of e-mail storage offered by Google’s Gmail service any time soon. Thanks to a Mexican programmer, however, users running a server and operating in a PHP environment might be able to use the free webmail service as the database for their blogs.

Kiwi Gordon Stewart is working on a GMail FAQ and would like suggestions.

Gordon is well known for his automation of message deletion at Yahoogroups. Quite a feat. Keep an eye on his FAQ. :)

Here is Gordon's post in GMail-Users:

  Wildcards in Contacts
Does adding an address to contacts whitelist that address?

I was able to enter *@yahoo.com in my contacts folder, I wonder if
that will whitelist the entire domain.

  "Report A Bug" Link
Some GMail beta accounts feature a "Report A Bug" link in the upper right just to the right of the sign out link. Through diligent research :)I have obtained the link, here it is:

Google to fight Microsoft with own browser?
September 22 2004
by Jo Best

While Microsoft may fancy capturing some of Google's search action for itself, Google could well be taking an opposite tack and trying to steal a march on Redmond's dominance of the browser world.

Having poached some of the brains behind Microsoft's Internet Explorer, according to the New York Post, speculation is mounting that following the launch of its own brand email, Gmail, the next logical step for the search giant to bring out its own browser.

Google's Gmail ads hit the mark

http://money.cnn.com/2004/09/20/technology/techinvestor/hellweg/

"As such, I'm going to make a prediction: After it officially launches, Gmail will significantly improve Google's revenue and profit prospects. I think the click-through rates for ads served in Gmail will be significantly higher than for normal AdWords, and advertisers will pay more to be included in e-mail ads. "

"Yes, there are limits on the number of groups you can create in a certain time period.

There may be limits on how fast a single user can post to the system for detection of automated mail senders.

There aren't currently limits on the archive size or the number of messages a group can receive.

But, the point of Groups2...."

Thinking Out Loud: GMail Scales Up
Thinking Out Loud: GMail Scales Up

It seems to me that the recent influx of invites is the fourth wave of
invites. If the original set of beta testers was about 1,000, and each
wave of invites scales up by about a factor of ten, then when this
round is implemented there will be approximately 1,000,000 GMusers. :)

It appears that there is a possible malicious email appearing in Gmail
inboxes disguised as an invitation announcement. The mailing claims to
be from the Gmail team and it "informs" the user that they have more
invitations that can be given out.
